July 14 Update – Progress on the Painting of Jaime

July 14 update -Jaime painting

After my shopping spree at DeSerres yesterday, I have a few new colours and fresh brushes! I starting re-working the reflection and made some progress on the robe and background elements today. The colours in the most recent image are more accurate than the photos of Monday’s work.

July 11 – Progress on the Painting of Jaime

Finally some studio time! With the launch of my Etsy shop and the job change it’s been difficult to find the head-space, let alone the actual time to work on this painting. Here’s the progress to date!  I added in a robe as an extra element and worked up the texture on the figure along with some textile detailing in the pillow. There will be another update this week after it dries a bit. 🙂

Recommended Art Film – Woman in Gold

Woman in Gold. Director, Simon Curtis. Helen Mirren, Ryan Reynolds. The Weinstein Company,  LLC. 2015.

Klimt, Gustav. Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer II. Neue Gallery, New York City.

We, my husband and I,  FINALLY saw this wonderful film! Helen Mirren reveals once again her amazing range as she portrays Maria Altmann, the niece of Adele Bloch-Bauer who is the subject of this beautiful painting. The masterpiece by Gustav Klimt was commissioned by and hung in the living room of the Bloch-Bauers and Altmanns (the two families lived together) until it was seized by the Nazis for payment of “taxes”during WWII. The name of the painting was changed from “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I” to the “The Lady in Gold” to distract from its dubious lineage as it found its way to the Belvedere Gallery in Vienna after the war. The movie reveals the long and arduous battle on the part of Maria Altmann and her attorney, Randy Schoenberg to have the painting returned to its rightful owner. It shines a light on some of the inner politics of art as well as the profound damage done to families in Europe under Nazi rule. This story has much to teach us about that time in history but also about the amazing strength of women like Maria Altmann. I hope you enjoy the film as much as we did.

My husband and I had the privilege of seeing this gorgeous painting at the Neue Gallery in New York City where it is now on permanent display (a condition of Altman selling it to the gallery).

You can view “Portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer II” at the MOMA in New York City when it is on display (it is at the time of this post). There is also an upcoming Klimt exhibition that we will go see during our next NY visit! Please see the links below.

Etsy Shop Now Open! Vintage Styled Mirrored Compacts

Hi everyone

I’ve just launched a line of mirrored compacts. They are inspired by my current theme of French Postcards which you have and will continue to see in my artwork. So far I have created 5 styles from vintage photos and one from one of my favourite ink drawings in the same theme. I can also create custom compacts from a jpeg file you provide (assuming you own the copyright). Here is the Etsy shop link:
